Conquest ward partially re-opened following sickness bug

A hospital ward, which closed to new admissions following two confirmed cases of a highly-contagious sickness bug, has partially re-opened today (Friday May 1).

Newington Ward at the Conquest Hospital was closed last Thursday (April 23) after two people were found to be suffering from norovirus, which is also known as ‘the winter vomiting virus’.

The bug is easily transmitted through contact with infected individuals from one person to another.

Symptoms of norovirus include vomiting, diarrhoea and fever.

The ward underwent some deep cleaning yesterday (April 30) and was partially reopened this morning.

Newington Ward is expected to fully reopen over the weekend.
