Conservatives select candidate for Brighton Pavilion

Emma Warman, the former deputy chair of LGBT+ Conservatives, has been selected to represent the Tories in the Green-held constituency.

Working in the insurance industry, Ms Warman said she ‘has never been a career politician’, but has previously been a councillor and stood for Parliament in 2015.

She said: “I’m delighted to have been selected for Brighton Pavilion. I’m passionate about the Prime Minister’s commitment to create a country that works for everyone, because coming from an ordinary background and a state school education I know how difficult it can be to get on in life. Theresa May speaks for all of us, no matter what our backgrounds.”

Originally from West Wales, Ms Warman’s father is an electrician and her mother worked for the NHS. She attended a comprehensive school in Wales before University in Reading and was a primary school governor. She later attended law school in London – working full time and taking evening classes to qualify as a lawyer.

Chairman of the local Conservative party Councillor Lee Wares said: “We are extremely pleased that Emma has been selected and she will be an excellent MP for Brighton Pavilion.”

Ms Warman will be taking on the Green Party’s Caroline Lucas - who has a 7,967-vote majority - and Labour’s Michelle Thew, a charity chief executive.

The Liberal Democrats announced the party would not be standing a candidate in the constituency.

Nick Yeomans, who worked in adult social care for 13 years, is standing as an independent.
