Continental visit rounds off jubilee year

The Bognor Regis Men's Probus Club concluded its silver jubilee year in some style with a three-day visit to the near continent and a gala Christmas luncheon.

Based on the Coquelles Holiday Inn, a full coach of travel club members with ladies and guests braved exceptionally inclement weather to enjoy old Boulogne, sitting quietly behind its ancient walls.

Then it was buzzing Bruges, winter and summer alike, and finally the wide variety of retail outlets in and around Calais. By the time the party sat down to a gourmet luncheon in Sangatte's Blanc Nez restaurant prior to the journey home, the coach groaned with the excess of festive goodies on board.

This year, the club returned to a gala luncheon as its Christmas celebration.

More than 100 members, ladies and guests sat down to traditional fare prepared and served in the grand manner by the Royal Norfolk Hotel in festive ambience. It proved to be a most fitting end to the year.

Members were reminded a new year would begin at the club's annual meeting in January to approve, or otherwise, the intentions of the incoming management.

The Bognor Regis Men's Probus Club meets in the Royal Norfolk Hotel every third Wednesday in the month, except August. Social time at the bar is followed by a three-course lunch, brief business and a speaker. Further information is always readily available from secretary Wilf Archer on 01243 821388.
