Control orders could keep dogs on leads

Dog owners could soon have to make sure their pets are on leads as new dog control orders look set to be introduced.

On Monday Rother District councillors at their cabinet meeting at Bexhill Town Hall agreed to give the go-ahead to set up a public consultation into the proposals.

This would mean dogs would have to be on leads all year in Egerton Park and Manor Gardens in Bexhill and along the Promenade, between groynes 34 and 78, and the Metropole Lawns from May 1 to September 30 if the scheme gets approval.

The issue was discussed among Rother councillors at last month's cabinet meeting when they decided a public consultation was needed.

It is expected that the consultation will start in June and the proposals go before the full council at a later date.
