Controlled burn causes concern

A controlled burn in Funtington has caused concern from nearby residents '“ but the fire service said it is being supervised.

The fire, which is believed to be of chopped-down trees and shrubs, is taking place opposite the New Barn Offices in Funtington.

The fire service confirmed it had been contacted by residents who were concerned by the size, and it is being monitored by firefighters. They said there was no need to be concerned.

It can be seen by drivers from the B2146.

A driver contacted the Observer and said: “There was smoke pouring into the sky. It is the biggest fire I have ever seen in real life.”
