Controversial Plans to build 370 new homes in Angmering are approved

During a special development and control meeting held yesterday afternoon (Thursday, May 8), Arun district councillors approved three controversial schemes on land by Roundstone Lane, which is ear-marked for a ‘garden city’-style development of 600 homes.

The trio of plans comprises of 139 homes on land east of Roundstone Lane, 195 properties on the existing West End Nursery site and a smaller application for 36 houses at Pound Nursery, also in Roundstone Lane.

In spite of protestations by Angmering Parish Council, Angmering’s district councillor Andy Cooper, campaigner Sue Ware, of Save Angmering Village, and several local residents, the committee voted to approve the plans by seven members to three.

Councillors debated for more than two hours on the scheme, which Arun officers said would bring ‘significant investment’ into the local economy, with major improvements set to be made to the single carriageway of the A259, south of the village.

The housing would also help to pay for the cost of a new primary school in Angmering.
