Council adds new member to its ranks

A PARISH council has co-opted a new member to its ranks.

Nick Muggridge became the latest member of Steyning Parish Council on Monday, May 12, at the full council meeting at the Steyning Centre in Fletchers Croft.

Cllr Muggridge moved to Steyning in 1977 and has been a permanent long-term resident for 35 years.

He said: “Both my children grew up and went to local schools and used all the facilities and clubs in the town.

“I think Steyning is a very special place.

“My wife and I both take part in local societies and help run them.

“I think it’s important to contribute to the area you are in.”

Cllr Muggridge said he had been aware of the need for more parish councillors in Steyning for some time.

“I have been struck by how easy it is to come up and criticise and how tough it is to give up your time and contribute, and I favour doing the latter,” he said.

“Steyning is a very special place. It’s an historic town, and a viable town, which is great, and all of us want to keep it that way.”

He said the town needed to accommodate the needs of its young people and future generations, that he wanted to be a part of that process.

Cllr Muggridge has worked in with the parish council in the past, mainly through doing youth work.

Chairman Phil Bowell said he was delighted to announce that Cllr Muggridge had been voted onto the council unanimously.
