“As soon as our car parks team was made aware of this issue, staff were sent to the car park to lift the barriers manually and assist customers.

“Our contractor attended site as soon as possible and enabled the system to get back online.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“Our estates team is currently investigating the flood, and depending on the outcome, measures will be put in place accordingly.

“We will also be meeting with the contractor to see what provisions can be put in place to prevent any situations like this in the future.”

A pay-on-exit system was introduced at the Avenue de Chartres car park in January which led to some ‘teething problems’ early in the year.

There were problems with the barriers’ number-plate recognition system.
