Council engages young people in Council Chamber debate

The Leader of Rother District Council, Councillor Graham Gubby, last Wednesday welcomed students from St. Richards Roman Catholic College attending an Asdan course at Bexhill College to the Town Hall in Bexhill to meet with both Councillors and Officers.

The students were made very welcome and were introduced to a wide range of topics, from the problems of waste disposal to the Council's proposals for the development of Egerton Park to the various links in the mayoral chain.

The students sat with Councillors and Officers in the Council Chamber and were invited to make their own comments about Rother and question the Council about its function and responsibilities.

This is just one of a number of initiatives that Rother is taking to engage with the residents of the District. Councillor Bob White from Battle who participated in an earlier event has championed the need for the young people of the District to also have an opportunity to put their views to the Council.

The Council has previously welcomed students from Beckley, Bodiam and Peasmarsh to the Town Hall and has held some of its meetings in Schools around the District in a genuine attempt to engage not only the young people of the District but also the wider community it serves.
