Council housing list set for change

ONLY residents of the Arun district for more than five years are set to be given council housing.

A new policy which bars anyone who fails the residency test from the housing waiting list is set to be brought in by Arun District Council.

The council’s housing and planning working group is expected next Wednesday to recommend the adoption of the policy.

The decision will go to the cabinet of the council in September to be approved to take effect from next January 1. The changes result from the government giving councils a greater say in how they allocate their housing.

Cllr Mike Clayden, the working group, said: “It’s clear that we simply don’t have enough homes to meet the demands of the total number of people on our housing waiting list who say they need them.”
