It is alleged the suspension on the Rover Metro he was driving had collapsed.

Maynard pleaded not guilty to both charges.

He must return to Hastings Magistrates Court for a trial on December 22.

Since 1999, Cllr Maynard has represented the Brede Valley Ward, which includes Brede, Westfield, Udimore, Broad Oak and Kent Street, on Rother District Council.
