Council needs information on flooding

PARISH councils around the Bognor Regis area have been asked to list their flooding blackspots.

West Sussex County Council’s leader, Louise Goldsmith, has written to all the local authorities seeking the facts about problems caused by the heavy rain which began on June 11.

She said talks had already begun between the council – which has the legal responsibility to investigate and report upon significant floods – to agree the extent and location of all individual incidents.

“Once we have this detail, it will be circulated to all parish councils to confirm and to add to the list where necessary, so that we can start the process of prioritisation and appropriate response.

“With so many areas affected, it is going to take a while to talk to everybody,” she said.

“In the meantime, it is important we capture as much information as possible while it is still fresh in people’s minds.”

The details required include a location plan or sketch to show the extent of the flooding, information on how the flooding was caused, if there has been a history of flooding, land ownership details and details of the affected flooded area.

The information should be emailed to [email protected]

Alternatively you can send details to West Sussex County Council, Drainage Strategy Team, Drayton Depot, Drayton Lane, near Chichester, PO20 2AJ.
