Council urged to act on Mill site

A plea for Rother District Council to follow up its successful launch of Bexhill's Elva Business Centre by following suit with land at Robertsbridge Mill was made by Cllr Sue Prochak at a full meeting of the council on Monday.

The Salehurst councillor and Liberal Democrat leader said that despite contesting and winning a planning appeal over regeneration of the site, Rother had so far done nothing with it.

Cllr Prochak asked council leader Carl Maynard: "Will Rother District Council get behind the Mill site?"

Cllr Maynard said that redevelopment of the site was something that councillors of all persuasions would want to see, but unlike Bexhill's Elva project, the council did not own the land outright.

He said: "We will do all we can to assist a successful purchaser to achieve their aspirations there, but any developer will try to get their quick buck out of a site.

"That is the difficulty that we have consistently endured."
