The plate is awarded by parish councillors each year to the individual they believe has done the most for the community in the preceeding 12 months.

Cllr Myers said: "I feel very proud to receive the Parish Plate. I love being a parish councillor and to get such an award for being appreciated for doing something you love is the icing on the cake to me. I enjoy being a councillor because I want to improve the area for everybody and for them to take a pride in it.

"I love Aldwick. I've lived here since 1940 and I've very fond memories of growing up here."

Cllr Mrs Myers (81), of Willowhale Avenue, joined the parish council more than eight years ago.

She co-ordinates the annual carol service in Rose Green as well as becoming involved in the council's youth-related services such as the shelter and new skatepark facilities at Avisford Park recreation ground.

She also an avid keep fit class member at the Willowhale Community Centre which enables her to keep in touch with the views of its members.

She is a firm believer in bringing together different age groups.

Cllr Mrs Myers was a founder member of the Aldwick Preservation and Aldwick Conservation societies before she became a councillor and can see the merit in forging closer links between such groups and the parish council.
