Brighton and Hove City Council’s neighbourhoods, inclusion, communities and equalities committee is today (July 2) due to discuss how much councillors can offer their communities from ward budgets next year.

In total £60,000 is spent on the scheme, with £54,000 going to communities across the city.

The idea behind the scheme is to ensure money goes to improve wellbeing in an area, bringing together councillors and the community in support of small projects.

In some areas councillors have combined their resources for maximum impact.

Labour councillors Gill Mitchell, Warren Morgan and Nancy Platts combined their resources to donate £3,000 towards setting up the East Brighton park run, a free, weekly timed event in East Brighton Park.

Currently more than 1,500 people take part in Brighton and Hove’s four park runs in Hove Park, Preston Park, on Hove Promenade and Bevendean Down every Saturday.

Rottingdean Clock Tower has the full £3,000 from Conservatives Lynda Hyde, Mary Mears and Joe Miller.

Harvesting water in Norfolk Square drew donations from the four Green councillors from Brunswick and Adeliade and the neighbouring Regency ward.

So far just over £48,000 has been spent with almost £6,000 still in the pot.
