Country fair comes home to Hotham Park

Organisers of one of Bognor Regis' most popular outdoor events are looking forward to coming home.

The Hotham Park country fair will be held in the beauty spot on August 8 and 9.

Its return comes after a year's absence caused by the extensive restoration work which was carried out in the park last year.

Joan Aubrey Jones, of Hotham Park Heritage Trust, said: "We are looking forward to being back in the park.

"It was a real washout last year when we went to West Meads for just a day.

"We are hoping the weather is fine this year and it will help everyone enjoy themselves at the fair."

Money raised from the latest fair will go towards providing more seating in quiet spots around the park.

Picnic tables and extra seating in the children's playground, which was part-funded by the trust, are also on the shopping list.

The fair is again being opened by the Duke of Richmond at 11am on August 8 and the entertainment will last from then until 5pm on both days.

The first day will see the Southern Starlights, Punch and Judy, the Aziza Egyptian dance team, the Regis Jazz Band and the Bognor Regis International Dance Ensemble entertain the crowds.

Sunday will feature an obedience display by Bognor Regis Dog Club, Alexis Twine, Curtain Call, Sompting Village morris dancers as well as Punch and Judy and the dance ensemble. Other attractions include an American Civil War camp on the Sunday and a judo display on Saturday.

The outdoor fun will continue with quad bikes, games, a coconut shy and a bouncy slide. A marquee will be bursting with arts and crafts stalls.

There will also be plenty of delicious food to buy. Refreshments, including waffles for the first time, will make sure everyone is fed and watered.
