A Sussex pub has had its licence revoked for two weeks after police raised concerns over 'violence and excessive drunkenness'.
The licencing team at Sussex Police submitted an application to review the licence at Coda Bar in Langney Road, Eastbourne due to concerns for public safety at the premises.
The licence holder and police attended a hearing at Eastbourne Town Hall on August 3 in front of Eastbourne Borough Council's licensing sub-committee.
After hearing cases from both sides the sub-committee found in favour of the police. Police say the current bar supervisor has been removed and the pub's licence suspended for two weeks following the hearing. A number of conditions will also be added to the licence of the premises when it reopens.
Sergeant Denham Vokins of the East Sussex Alcohol Harm reduction unit said: "The way the premises was being run fell way below the standards required under the licensing act . There were a number of incidents involving excessive drunkenness, violence, threats, anti-social behaviour. We want to make sure a venue is safe for those who are visiting and enjoying it."
Inspector Rachel Barrow of Eastbourne`s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Requesting the local authority to review a premises licence is not a decision which is taken lightly. Prior to this point we had tried on numerous occasions to help support and work with the premises licence holder. Management of the premises did not improve sufficiently to satisfy our concerns and public safety was put at risk.
"I am grateful to our licensing team for their application and hard work. We will be monitoring closely whether the premises is managed and operated safely from now onwards."
