COUNTY NEWS: Where to see beacons being lit for the Queen's birthday

Worthing, Shoreham and Littlehampton are joining the national celebrations of the Queen’s milestone birthday, which includes the lighting of 1,000 beacons.

The last major beacon lighting of this nature was on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

In Worthing, residents can join the town’s mayor, Michael Donin, from 7.45pm opposite the Beach Office on Marine Parade, Worthing seafront.

Mayor Donin will then lead a rendition of the national anthem and read a message from Prince of Wales. He will also be joined by Robert Smytherman, Worthing Town Crier.

The beacon will be lit at by the mayor at 8.30pm.

In Shoreham, a birthday beacon will be lit at Shoreham Fort by the Friends of Shoreham Fort.

The evening starts at 8pm with music and refreshments, and the beacon will be lit at 8.30pm.

In Littlehampton, the event is being staged on the seafront, with entertainment from 7pm. There will be music from the forties, fifties and sixties by the Silhouette Show trio, followed by the Sea Cadets Band.

Littlehampton’s mayor, Marian Ayres, will light the beacon at 8.15pm.
