The woman airlifted to hospital after becoming trapped under her car in Eastbourne yesterday (Thursday) has died and been named as Liberal Democrat campaigner and past mayor Beryl Healy.

She was airlifted to the major trauma unit at Brighton but died shortly afterwards.

Mrs Healy, a widow, was a former mayor of Eastbourne and a councillor for Devonshire ward on both the borough council and East Sussex County Council for many years.

Her late husband John Healy was also a councillor for the area.

Family and friends have been left devastated by her death.

She was a prolific Lib Dem campaigner and close friend of former MP Stephen Lloyd and council leader David Tutt.

Tributes will be paid to Mrs Healy throughout the day.
