Teen charged with Mayfield murder appears in court

A 17-year-old boy has appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday, March 1) charged with the murder of Paul Jefferies in Mayfield.

The boy from Crowborough, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of killing Mr Jefferies on Tuesday (February 23).

Mr Jefferies, 52, was found dead by police who called at his home in Coggins Mill Lane on Thursday (February 25) after concerns had been expressed that he had not been seen for a few days.

The boy, who appeared in court via videolink, was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday (March 3).

A 17-year-old girl from Eastbourne, a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man both from Crowborough who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have all been released on bail until April 21 for further enquiries.
