County Rethink Rubbish Bus visits Bexhill schools

THE campaign to get more people to reduce, re-use and recycle more of their waste has been brought home to Bexhill schoolchildren.

The East Sussex County Council campaign is supported by county council chairman Cllr Bob Lacey.

The chairman visited the county council's Rethink Rubbish Bus when it stopped off at Glyne Gap School and Pebsham Community Primary School.

The bus was visiting the Bexhill schools as part of the Rethink Rubbish programme and to support the schools joint Eco group and ongoing composting and recycling projects.

Councillor Lacey said: "I was delighted to meet pupils of both schools and watch them take part in the Rethink Rubbish programme.

"The sheer enthusiasm of the children demonstrated to me that they are very aware of the importance of recycling and environmental issues. Recycling is practical and young people clearly understand that. I would urge everyone to follow the lead shown by these Bexhill pupils and reduce, re-use and recycle."

The Rethink Rubbish programme takes place in the classroom and on board the Rethink Rubbish Bus, providing interesting, interactive sessions on rubbish and the environment.

The aim is to help teachers provide high-quality activities relevant to the national curriculum.

Designed by Science Museum Solutions, the Rethink Rubbish sessions encourage pupils to learn from first hand experience and cover topics such as waste reduction, re-use and recycling. The sessions help the pupils to think about why we need to reduce rubbish and protect the environment.

Through interactive computer games, information displays and educational games on the bus and in the classroom, students discover what can be reduced, re-used, recycled or composted and how.
