‘Ridiculous’, ‘daft’ and ‘a waste of money - a £500,000 grant for lighting, signage and paving in Horsham came in for heavy criticism this week. Horsham District Council has announced plans to spend the money on improving West Street, but residents have been calling for it to be used on bringing more retailers to the town.

Tributes paid to Horsham’s Raymond Cusick, the designer behind Dr Who’s Daleks. Mr Cusick died on February 21, after a short illness. Although his work as a junior designer received little recognition for many years, Mr Cusick’s creation is one of the most famous, and one of the most enduring, in science fiction.

Steyning’s Memorial Playing Field wins village green status. The news was welcomed by many locals, but several parish councillors are concerned that this will make life harder for local groups and clubs which use the playing field.
