County travel news: 18-week work on access road

WORK to provide a new access junction for a residential development onto the A286 Stockbridge Road, Chichester, will start on Monday April 11.

The work will also involve upgrading and altering the traffic lights at the junction with Terminus Road and laying anti-skid surfacing in some areas.

The work is needed in connection with the development of the former Osborne House site. The land is being redeveloped by Linden Homes and once finished will comprise 86 homes.

The new access is being formed off Stockbridge Road, just south of the junction with Terminus Road.

The work is expected to last for 18 weeks. During this time there will be 24-hour traffic lights controlling the flow of traffic. The lights will be operated manually if queues of traffic build up significantly in any one direction.

It is inevitable that there will be some impact on traffic using the roads in the vicinity of the works, so it will be advisable for motorists to find alternative routes into and out of Chichester during this time if possible.

The work will be carried out by the developers but the County Council will supervise to try and keep disruption and inconvenience to a minimum.
