Couple assaulted in Hastings town centre

A couple were attacked in the town centre early in the morning.

The victims had just left French’s Inn and were walking towards a fish and chip shop nearby when the assault took place.

Police have launched an appeal today (Friday, May 13) for witnesses to the attack, which happened on Monday, May 2 in Robertson Street between 3.30am and 4am.

The 30-year-old man from St Leonards sustained grazes and bruising to his right arm black left eye and swollen and cut lips.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his late 20s, 6ft to 6ft 2ins tall, of medium build and with short dark hair.

He wore a white cardigan or pullover.

The victim had an initial confrontation with the suspect earlier in the night when he went to the smoking area outside French’s.

He returned to the bar and left at closing time where he saw the man again who subsequently knocked him to the ground.

The 22-year-old St Leonards woman who was with the victim was also assaulted by the same man and sustained bruising to both eyes, a swollen and bloody nose, bruised and grazed knees.
