Crack cocaine menace heading to Bexhill

COVERT drug intelligence officers fear Bexhill could become the next town to be plagued by the epidemic of crack cocaine.

High-profile police pressure in Hastings is pushing dealers to outlying towns and major traffickers of the evil drug have already been seen operating in Bexhill.

The warning comes from a Bexhill-based special intelligence unit set up in May to nail drug dealers across the division.

One of the officers, who cannot be named because it would blow his cover, said: "Crack is very prevalent in cities and major towns but has not been a major problem in Bexhill up until now.

"But the dealers are now getting so much hassle from us in Hastings they're looking elsewhere and my fear is that they are looking towards Bexhill. It's an open market for them. Heroin is already readily available and has been for some time but the crack cocaine dealers are now arriving."

High-powered motorcycles and sports cars which race down the A21 delivering major packages of crack to the south coast have been seen in Bexhill in recent months.
