The four-day event is set in the stunning, historic Michelham Priory and Gardens and Sussex Guild publicist, Helen Warren says it provides a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where visitors can meet the designer makers and purchase unique work from the region’s finest craftspeople. “Those exhibiting were selected for their high degree of skill and creativity,” she said. “Sussex Guild members will be showing their excellent and inspiring work in the Elizabethan barn and in marquees on the lawns.

“There will be a variety of artwork on show including: ceramics, jewellery, furniture, glass, metalwork, textiles and wood. However, it is the craft demonstrations that make this craft show really special.”

Demonstrations include: creative textiles, glass working, patchwork, quilting, smocking and woodturning, together with several potters showing their different skills on the potter’s wheel, and decorating ceramics.

Sussex Guild member, ceramicist John Evans will be showing his smoked fired raku pottery at Michelham for the first time and will be firing his raku kiln; when raw clay pots are put into the kiln at 1000 degrees centigrade. Helen added: “Great care and metal tongues are used! The glazed pots are left in the kiln for just a short time before being withdrawn; they are then plunged into sawdust where they will smoke. They are then washed off to reveal wonderful results that can be breathtaking or disastrous!”

“With delightful gardens, England’s largest moat, Tudor house and working mill together with the licensed restaurant, picnic places and free parking, there’s something for everyone at Michelham Priory. So why not combine a visit to the past with our Contemporary Craft Show? It makes a great day out and you may find something special to take home, too!”

Admission to the house and grounds includes the Sussex Guild Contemporary Craft Show.
