Crash boy improving

A YOUNG boy who suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car is said to be "doing well".

The seven-year-old was transferred to a special head injuries unit in London following the incident in Polegate last week. A full report appeared on the Observer's front page.

The boy was walking with his mother when a woman driver in her 70s from Bexhill is believed to have lost control of her vehicle and careered into a group of pedestrians.

The group was near the pedestrian crossing, close to the mini-roundabout at the top of the High Street.

Emergency services attended the scene and he was initially taken to Eastbourne DGH in a helicopter, before being transferred to London.

A police spokesman said on Tuesday: "He is doing really well and they think he will be transferred to Eastbourne today.

"He has undergone brain surgery, which has gone very well. He is talking and eating normally.

"This is still regarded as a serious injury."

The boy's mother, who suffered serious leg injuries, is in a stable condition at the DGH and is recovering well.

The boy and his mother have not been named by police under data protection rules.
