CRASH ROAD MUM'S NEW YEAR PLEDGE

A LEWES mum is so worried about traffic conditions outside her home she is taking first aid courses to help crash victims.

Alex Grey, 38, of Stoneham Cottages, on the A26 two miles out of Lewes, has witnessed two crashes near her house in the year that she has been there '“ and there have been several others before she arrived.

'Motorists passing my door might be heartened to know that my New Year's resolution has been to take a first aid course in case further serious injuries occur on this stretch of road before East Sussex County Council takes action to improve its safety, she said.

'We all want the council to give renewed consideration to remedial works and a reduction of the speed limit at this dangerous spot. I was first on the scene in the second crash

I witnessed. I was acutely aware at that time that if the driver had been really badly hurt I wouldn't have known what to do.'

Alex, who works as a proof reader, started her course on Tuesday.

A spokesman for East Sussex County Council said: 'The number of accidents on this particular stretch of the A26 means it is placed 13th in priority for attention in comparison with other rural A-roads in the county.

'In the meantime, we are seeing whether any interim measures - warning signs, for example - may be helpful.'
