Crawley people rehoused after home badly damaged in crash

Crawley people have been put into temporary housing after a car crash caused structural damage to their home.

Two flats in a detached house in Messenger Close, Ifield have been fenced off after a wall was cracked on Wednesday (June 8).

Emergency services were called at 10.15am. Police have appealed for witnesses after a Crawley man, 52, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving nearby.

A Horsham District Council spokesman said: “A Sussex Building Control surveyor attended the site at the request of the Fire Service. On arrival, the car had been removed from the crash scene but the building was badly damaged and considered as potentially unsafe. Moat Housing, the owner of the property, arranged for temporary propping to support the building and temporary accommodation for the occupants.

“Sussex Building Control will continue to check on progress and ensure the building remains safe and stable.”

The man has been released on police bail until today (June 10).

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers believed no other vehicles were involved. No one was reported injured.
