Crawley taxi firm owner fined for using cars and drivers without valid licences

A spokesman said Mawaz Khan, a licensed operator who has traded under the name United Cars since August 2015, pleaded guilty to ten offences when he appeared at Worthing Magistrates Court last Friday (May 13).

District Judge noted Khan had ‘full knowledge’ of the licensing laws which were in place to ensure public safety, before giving him a £150 fine per offence, and orders to pay £1,500 prosecution costs to the council and victim surcharge of £120, the spokesman said.

She added the authority brought the case after evidence came to light that Mr Khan was not complying with licensing laws.

Leader of the council Cllr Peter Lamb said: “The council takes its role as a Licensing Authority very seriously, we have a responsibility to regulate the industry for the benefit of both users and the wider community. Where organisations break the rules we will pursue them to the maximum extent of the law.”
