Crawley window boards create '˜positivity'

A spokesman said the ex-Dorothy Perkins shopfront in Queens Square will have a board promoting town events and the square’s £3.2m revamp until the unit is let.

The council wanted to work with landlords to “install similar graphics for a high impact, visual display in the windows of other empty units around the town centre to create positivity and inspire new business.”

Councillor Peter Smith, cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “We were looking for interesting ways to transform vacant and negative looking shops.

“I’m sure these improvements and colourful designs will help brighten up the outlook of Queens Square and ultimately make the property more attractive to prospective tenants.”

Leader of the council’s Conservative group, Cllr Duncan Crow, said: “This isn’t anything new and has happened before with various designs. I support attempts to smarten up unattractive empty shop windows but the comment from Cllr Peter Smith that it will attract new tenants for the empty shops is of course complete nonsense.”
