Cream star at event

Pete Brown - the man who wrote hits for supergroup Cream such as Sunshine of Your Love - makes a guest performance at the Bare Faced Blues Festival this weekend.

The event takes place at Gecko Bar, Grand Parade, St Leonards, on Sunday October 4 and will be raising funds for St Michael’s Hospice.

Pete Brown is a fine poet in his own right as well as being the originator of rock classics that went on to make musicians like Eric Clapton household names throughout the world.

Pete was close friends with the late cream bassist Jack Bruce and worked with him on his 1969 solo album Songs for a Tailor.

Pete will be accompanied by Malcolm Bruce when he performs on Sunday.

The event follows on from the success of last year’s blues festival at the Gecko, which raised a substantial sum for the hospice.

This year’s Bare Faced Blues Festival has another top line-up featuring Roger Hubbard, Black Sheep, O’Donnel and Bolton, Eddy Odel and Blues Plus.

The music starts at 1.30pm and admission is free with a donation to the hospice.

The festival was the idea of local man Barry Taylor - the man who booked the Sex Pistols to play on Hastings Pier back in July 1976.

Last year’s Festival raised £756.91 for the hospice through CD sales and collections.

Entry to the festival is free but donations to St Michael’s Hospice are welcomed.

Chloe Dyas, from St Michael’s Hospice, said: “It is great that so many top musicians are giving their services to help the hospice.

The hospice, which has been operating in the area for 25 years. is trying to raise funs after being badly damaged in a fire earlier this year.

It provides in-patient and out-reach palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses across Hastings and Rother.
