Creative competition for children to raise firework safety awareness

The directors, located in Canada Grove in Bognor Regis, invited pupils from Bartons Primary School in Lethaby Road, Bersted, to design posters or write poems to highlight the dangers of fireworks and bonfire night.

Marc Labrum, funeral director, said: “We are keen to encourage local youngsters to understand the potential dangers and help them to stay safe on this popular annual event. Winners were Emilia, Lime Class, Szymon, Hazel Class and Charlotte Peach, Lime Class, all Year Three pupils at Bartons. We were thrilled by the standard of the posters the children created. It was a extremely hard decision to pick the three winners but with help from the Fire Station we chose the above names, which we announced at their assembly.

“All children that took part received a Be Safe Be Seen Badge and the three winners won a £20 book token voucher each and were collected in a limousine and taken to the Fire Station where they were given a tour and even got to sit inside a fire engine. The children thoroughly enjoyed it.

“We would like to thank Bartons and especially Mrs Powell for the opportunity to allow her pupils to take part and to West Sussex Fire Service and all at Bognor for their hospitality and judging skills.

“It’s events like this that at the heart of our community that we love to get involved with.”
