Crews tackle fire at water works in Pulborough

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said the service was called to reports of a small fire on London Road at 9.49am this morning.

He added: “Joint Fire Control mobilised a crew from Billingshurst and another crew from Storrington to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found a small amount of smoke coming from some electrical switchgear in the basement of the building.”

Crews extinguished the fire using dry powder and worked closely with engineers from Southern Water throughout, he added. The water supply network was unaffected by this incident and supply continued to run as normal.

The spokesman said: “Firefighters checked over the scene of the fire using thermal imaging cameras to ensure there were no further hotspots, with the last crew leaving the scene at 12.07pm.”
