Cricket statue to return after eight months of repairs

The statue was first revealed in Queens Square when the shopping centre opened in 1997 and was put in place to mark the former Central Cricket Ground that the centre was built on.

In November of last year, the statue was accidentally damaged during the installation of the centre’s ice rink for Christmas and was taken away for some repairs as well as a general refurbishment to get it looking as good as new.

Centre manager Stacey Bell said: ‘We realise how important this landmark is to the people of Hastings, and our customers have communicated their eagerness to see it return, so we’ve taken time to ensure the best and most sensitive repairs are made to such an iconic piece.

“We are delighted to reinstate the statue so it can stand proud once again and continue to represent the former cricket ground’.

The centre will be hosting a ribbon cutting from 11am on Monday, July 11 with Hastings mayor Councillor Judy Rogers and have invited customers to come along to enjoy the unveiling.
