CRIME FILE: Bogus police, racial abuse and an obscene act

VICTIMS of racial abuse, a flasher and a bogus police officer, are all crimes police in Worthing need help with this week.

Fake police

A MAN is helping police with their enquiries after he was caught allegedly posing as a police officer.

Police said the man approached a couple sitting in their car at Goring Gap at around 2.30am on Thursday, June 5.

He told them he was a police officer and asked them for personal details about themselves and details about their car.

The pair became suspicious as the man was not in uniform and did not have a police identification card with him, so they contacted police.

The man, in his mid 20s, was not arrested but is said to be "helping" police in relation to the matter.

Abuse victims

POLICE are keen to trace an Asian family who it is thought were the victims of racial abuse.

Officers were called to Chapel Road, Worthing, at around 6.45pm on Monday, June 9, after a witness reported several men were shouting verbal abuse at the family.

Police rushed to the scene, but before they arrived the family had left.

They were able to take the details of the men thought to have shouted abuse, but until the family is traced the investigation cannot go any further.

Woman chased

A WOMAN was chased down the street by a man who whistled at her and then performed an obscene act.

The 35-year-old was walking down The Boulevard, Durrington, at 7.30am on Saturday, May 31, when it happened.

She made a 999 call to police but by the time they arrived the man had gone.

The man is described at white, aged between 35 and 38, of medium build, and had curly ginger hair.

At the time, he was wearing denim jeans and a denim jacket.
