The orders are measures Eastbourne Borough Council can use to protect the community from anti-social behaviour and they restrict what people can do in specific areas.

The four orders, which were put in place in 2017 for three years, were due to expire this month but have been renewed until 2023.

The orders ban:

· Consumption of alcohol in any street in Eastbourne town centre

· Dog fouling in any public area of the borough

· Dogs being off the lead in certain areas at specific times

· Dogs entering certain areas at specific times

Breaching any of these orders can result in a fine of up to £1,000 or prosecution.

Councillor Rebecca Whippy, cabinet member for disabilities and community safety, said, “It is important that residents continue to enjoy living and working in our beautiful town without the blight of dog mess or anti-social behaviour related to street drinking.

“While we are a nation of animal lovers, there are some places where it is not appropriate to bring dogs or they need to be on leads. These four orders have been extended so that our community remains a safe and pleasant place for residents.”

The decision to renew the orders follows a public consultation held during September and October this year. At the consultation 89 per cent of respondents believed the orders were needed to prevent these types of anti-social behaviour.

Councillor Whippy said, “The consultation showed broad support for these orders and I would like to thank all those who took the time to participate.”
