The driver of a gold convertible car swung across the road towards the cyclist, who was on a path and dressed in orange clothing, before mounting the pavement and forcing him against a wall, though without making contact.

The driver, who is known to the victim, was shouting aggressively and used an implement taken from the rear of the car to strike him.

The suspect threw the victim’s bike against the wall until the rear wheel buckled, causing some £80 damage.

He then drove off at speed, accompanied by a female passenger.

During the incident two men in a white van stopped to intercede, but on finding the victim was okay they left and drove on.

Police are keen to hear from these two men.

They would also welcome information from anyone else who saw what happened or who heard any conversation between the suspect and the victim.
