Bank card stolen from pensioner in distraction theft

Police are appealing for information after a pensioner’s bank card was stolen during a distraction theft in Eastbourne.

Police in Eastbourne have appealed for help identifying the men pictured following the incident in Langney.

A spokesperson for the police force said: “An 84-year-old male was using the ATM inside the shopping centre on the 10 June around 2pm and 3pm, when an unknown person told the male he’d dropped some of his cash, as he bent down to retrieve, his bank card was removed from the machine.

“Later the same day almost £1,000 was used against the victim’s bank card.

“Distraction theft techniques can hard to spot, and we continue to encourage residents, partially those who are vulnerable to be extra vigilant around cash machines, and to report any suspicious persons or activities around cash machine/banks to report to the bank or police at the time.”
