Police are looking for information to identify a man who has been attempting to defraud shops in Lewes.

He has been entering premises and taking stock from a display – then deliberately damaging it and trying to ask for a refund.

The man visited Wickle, School Hill, on July 20 and Bunce & Co and InterSport in Cliffe High Street on July 22 but on none of the occasions was he successful in getting a refund.

PC Claire Underwood issued a description of the wanted fraudster.

She said: “This man is described as being aged between 40 and 60, 5ft 10ins to 6ft 2ins tall with short grey hair and yellow stained teeth.

“We would like to alert independent shopkeepers to this scam and ask anyone who has information or who has been a victim to call on 101 quoting serial 938 of 20/7.”
