Car seized from teen after wheel spinning left 30ft mark on road

Officers were on patrol in an unmarked vehicle at about 7.30pm on December 19 when they saw the Skoda wheel spinning in Albion Way.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Bognor Regis, had been issued a section 59 notice warning about his driving on a previous occasion, and the car was seized.

In addition, he was issued with a traffic offence report for careless driving.

Sussex Police’s Road Policing Units are working with Horsham Neighbourhood Policing Team in response to complaints from the public relating to antisocial driving in and around the town.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “This type of driving will not be tolerated and any offences will be dealt with accordingly.

“This does not only include offences committed on the roads, as a lot of road traffic legislation will also apply to public places such as supermarket car parks and other places open to the public.

“This type of driving can be dangerous and raises the probability of the driver losing control of the vehicle and causing a serious collision.

“In addition, it can cause unknown damage to the structure of the vehicle, including the tyres, which can then render the vehicle to be in a dangerous condition.

“It is also known that some drivers are modifying their cars to enable them to perform manoeuvres such as drifting and some of these modifications can be illegal for vehicles used on the road.

“It should be clarified that if any changes are made to a vehicle, the driver must ensure they comply with legislation and notify their insurance company of the changes, as failure to do so can render their insurance policy void.”
