Charity box money stolen from Hastings’ historical landmark

Police are investigating the theft of money from the charity box next to a historical landmark in Hastings.

The money was stolen from the Cyril and Lilian Bishop lifeboat at the junction of Harold Road and The Bourne on Friday (July 23) at around 5.20am, police said.

A member of the public intervened and the suspect left the scene in a silver Hyundai Getz, according to police.

The man is described as tanned, aged in his 40s, around 5ft 10in, of average build and with short brown hair. He was wearing a grey top and black shorts.

Sussex Police said: “We understand the upset this incident has caused among our community. This is a matter we are taking very seriously, and our enquiries to trace the suspect are ongoing.

“Anyone with any information that could help our investigation are asked to please report online or call 101 quoting serial 221 of 23/07.”
