Charity fraudsters rob woman in Storrington village centre

An elderly woman was robbed by two women who approached her in Storrington claiming to be collecting for charity.

Police say the women had clipboards and said that they were collecting for a deaf charity.

A spokesman said: “They were not wearing masks and their proximity led to the woman becoming flustered and withdrawing money from a cash machine.

“She handed over £10 and was hugged by one of the women, but then discovered that the rest of the money that she had withdrawn was missing.

“She went into a local bank where she was cared for and police were called.

“The women are described as white, aged 35-40, one with long hair and glasses and both carrying clipboards.

“They gave the impression that they were deaf.

“Anyone with information is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 602 of 12/11.”

The incident happened at around 12 noon on Thursday November 12.
