Children broken-hearted after Camber ferret theft

The owner of three pet ferrets who were stolen last week said the thieves ‘have broken our hearts’.

Michael Knight, of Camber Road, Camber, is offering a £100 reward for the safe return of his working ferrets.

Mr Knight uses them for pest control as he is a green keeper at Rye Golf Club but his two daughters had become attached to them as pets.

They were taken sometime between 10pm on Wednesday, September 9, and 5.30am Thursday morning.

“I went to bed at about 10pm and they were there. I got up at 5.30am and the doors to their hutch were open,” he said.

“As I have a couple of small kids it was not easy to explain it to them – they just can’t understand it.”

Mr Knight said the hutch is above the ground but one of his garden chairs was left below the cage – oddly the other chair was also missing.

“I have put lots of flyers out in Rye and Camber but to no avail yet,” he said.

“There’s no real value in ferrets as you can buy them for as little as £5. The police have been very helpful but it’s very annoying – I don’t understand why you would do that.

“It’s broken our hearts, especially the kids’.”

The golf club gave Mr Knight the ferrets six months ago to help him catch rabbits as they can ruin the courses.

Police are investigating the theft of the ferrets and are appealing for information.

Flossy and Fleur are brown, polecat types with a black mask across their eyes and Fenula is an albino.

Mr Knight said one of the brown ferrets and the albino are recognisable from distinct hair loss on their tails.
