Crawley man taken to hospital after alleged assault in town pub

A Crawley man was injured in an alleged assault at a pub in Southgate last night (Saturday April 2).

The incident happened at The New Moon in Brighton Road at 11.30pm.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “At 11.30pm, police responded to an incident at The New Moon, in Brighton Road, Crawley, during which a 35-year-old man from Crawley sustained injuries for which he was treated at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

“The assault is being treated as an isolated incident and the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

“We are investigating an allegation of assault and would like to hear from anyone who was in or around the pub on Saturday evening who witnessed the assault or who may have information about the assailant.”

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, but the police spokesperson said the arrest was not directly related to the alleged assault.
