Detective constable Vanessa Cottington said: “A worker for the charity Furni-Aid left a bag containing donations, which he was taking to the bank, on the train.

“He only realised he had forgotten the bag after alighting the train at Crawley, and reported it immediately.

“This money was intended for a charity which provides needy people with furniture, so it is important we do everything possible to recover it.

“I think the woman in the image can help us with our investigation. Please let us know who she is.”

The train guard was contacted and a search carried out, but the bag was not found.

Officers believe a woman who left the train at Horley may have picked up the bag.
