Distraction burglary at Newick shop


Police are appealing for witnesses to a burglary at a shop at The Green, Newick, at about 3.20pm on Saturday August 24.

A man entered Sussex Village Stores and told the shop assistant that boxes have been put by for him.

The shop assistant went to look for the boxes in the storeroom leaving the male unattended.

While she was gone the man jumped up onto the counter and opened the till, taking £80 in cash.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged 30 to 40, 5ft 9in, of muscular build and with short, straight, brown hair.

He was wearing a black Nike T-shirt, grey tracksuit bottoms and white trainers, had black sunglasses on his head and was believed to have a nervous twitch.
