A DISPERSAL order is being made in the Castle precincts and The Pells, Lewes, after complaints from residents about anti social behaviour by youths.

Sussex Police, together with Lewes District and Town Council, are to introduce a dispersal order under section 30 of Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003.

They said residents have had to endure a disproportionate amount of unruly and unnecessary drunken behaviour over an extended period of time.

The order has been authorised in an attempt to alleviate these issues.

The order gives officers the power to challenge groups of two or more whose behaviour is likely to cause intimidation or harassment and require them to leave the designated areas, immediately if necessary with further direction not to return to the area within 24 hours or risk arrest for breaching the order.

Full maps of the area will be left within the defined area along with details of the order.

The order will run from this Friday (August 31) to November 2012.

More details of the order are available at Lewes Police station.
