Eastbourne man charged with fraud

An Eastbourne man has been charged with fraud after an elderly woman was reported to have been conned in the Langney area.

At 11am on January 26, officers were alerted to a man who reportedly sought money for fence repairs.

An 87-year-old woman handed over around £50 for the work which was not completed, according to Sussex Police.

Richard Chapman, 55, of Horsa Close in Eastbourne, has since been charged with fraud by false representation.

He has been bailed to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on March 10.

DC Elliott Lander said, “We work hard to protect vulnerable members of our community and will deal robustly with reports of fraud.
