Four cars damaged in Newhaven street in early hours

Police are probing the criminal damage of four cars in Newhaven.

Sussex Police said officers were alerted by the fire service to the cars in First Avenue in the early hours of Thursday morning (June 11).

Along with the damage, it was reported that an attempt had been made to set light to the vehicles.

A police spokesman said: “A number of windows in the cars had been smashed, possibly with a hammer or similar implement.

“A man, described as dressed all in black with a black snood over his face, was seen to run off towards Second Avenue.

“A police dog unit joined a search of the area, but there was no trace of the man.”

Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time or who has any information about the incident or the man is asked to report to Sussex Police online or call 101 quoting serial 54 of 11/06.
